The discipline of environmental resources law of Central South University of Economics and Law was started in 1981, with the pioneering and innovative efforts of Professors Guo Rui, Jiang Bikun and Shao Bodin, who made environmental resources law a course of study in the university's law program and published the first environmental law work in China—— "Speech on Environmental Protection Law", which laid a good academic tradition of environmental resources law in the university. Since the 1990s, under the leadership of Professor Lv Zhongmei, the discipline of environmental resources law has entered the fast track. 1997 saw the opening of the research direction of environmental resources law in the master's degree program of economic law, 2001 saw the establishment of the Institute of Environmental Resources Law, 2002 saw the official qualification of awarding the master's degree of environmental and resources protection law, 2004 saw the establishment of the research direction of environmental civil law in the doctoral program of civil and commercial law, and 2006 saw the official approval of the environmental and resources law. In 2006, the Institute was formally approved as a doctoral program in environmental and resource protection law; in 2007, it was approved as a postdoctoral station; in 2008, it was selected as a key discipline in Hubei Province; in 2009, it cooperated with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) to establish an advanced training and research base in environmental law; in 2010, it cooperated with Hubei University of Economics to establish a key research base in humanities and social sciences in Hubei Province—&mdash ;Hubei Water Research Center, and in 2015, it was selected for the list of high-quality courses in Hubei Province. After Professor Lv Zhongmei adjusted academic relations due to work changes, Professor Gao Lihong continued to lead this team to steadily promote discipline construction, environmental resources law teaching team in 2017 was selected as “Hubei Master Studio ”, environmental resources law discipline as an important support with the school of law discipline into the national “double first-class ” construction list, and with the Luoyang Central Court The Department of Environmental Resources Law, as an important support, has entered the list of national “double first-class”construction with the school's law discipline, and has established ecological law collaborative innovation base with Luoyang Central Court.

After several years of development, the Department of Environmental Resources Law of Central South University of Economics and Law has formed a complete training system from undergraduate students to master students to doctoral students, and built a framework for the construction of disciplines such as scientific research, teaching and education, social services and international cooperation. There are 9 full-time researchers (4 professors, 2 associate professors, 3 lecturers, all with doctoral degrees), 1 Wenlan Scholar Chair Professor, 1 person selected in the National High-Level Talents Program, 2 persons selected in the list of the Top Ten Young Jurists and Legal Workers in Hubei Province, 1 person selected in the Hubei Master Teacher Support Program, 1 person selected in the South Lake Master Teacher Support Program, 2 persons selected in the list of Wenlan Young Scholars. He has been selected as an advisor or consultant to the National People's Congress, the government, the court and the procuratorate at all levels for many times.
